What
Yesterday (March 09, 2015)  in Northern Ontario, A train transporting crude oil between Alberta and Eastern Canada derailed and ignited a fire that is still burning.

Who
The train was part of the Canadian National railway company. The derailment occurred near the town of Cogama whose residents fear for their safety. Gogama and Mattagami First Nations officials are putting pressure on Lisa Raitt, the Federal Minister of transportation to look into the situation.

Why
This is a serious problem because it is the third derailment happening in Northern Ontario in less than a month. The fact that there has been so many derailment in such short period is an indication that something is wrong. People who live in the are right to be nervous because because train derailments can be very deadly. In 2013, 47 people died when a train transporting oil crashed and burned in the town center of Lac Megantic. There is also the fact that part of the train ended up in a river causing serious damage to the environment.

How
Train transportation was the main means of transportation for the economic life of our country. The pressure is on the Canadian National railway company to step up safety and prevent further accidents. People leaving near train tracks are getting nervous and do not feel safe. This can affect us in the future because it may cost more to keep the train track safe which will cost more money and can eventually raise the price of gas even higher. Indirectly, this can also affect people's opinion in regards to pipeline development; the more accident of this type happens, the more people will think that building a pipeline is not such a bad idea.
